The Huayhuash trek.is one of the most beautiful treks in the world – and it’s easy to believe.
The entire length of the Cordillera Huayhuash ranges only 30 km but within its compact area lays amazing towering peaks. At almost every turn, you come face to face with glistening vertical walls of ice, snow and rock. Beautiful lakes, different kind or births and Keep an eye out for the massive Andean Condors and for Siula Grande 6,344 m.s.n.m, the site where popular book and motion picture “Touching the Void” took place!
ITENERARY
DAY 01: HUARAZ – CHIQUIAN – LLAMAC – POCPA – CUARTELHUAIN 3,100 – 3,600 – 4,180 mt) CUARTELHUAIN – CACANAN PUNTA – MITUCOCHA (4,180 – 4,700 – 4,230 mt)
we will start the trip at 4:00am. Approximately to the south side from Huaraz. Passing for the different districts like; Recuay, Ticapampa, Catac and Conococha at 4100m. Then we will journey to the east side and south East to Chiquian at 3400m. Where you can buy something, the journey take 2 hours then we have to down for about 2 more hours and go up until passing Llamac and Pocpa village where we will meet the last village after it we keep driving until Cuartelhuain 4,180 , along this route we will passing the small Pallca mine, arriving to the place where we will start walk From here we will see the Ninashanca Mountain in the south side. After our breakfast we will start walking up toward Cacananpunta pass at 4700 m, when we arrived to the pass; we will be on the continental divide, as well as we will enjoy taken amazing pictures about deep valleys, hills and snowcapped peaks. Then we will descend to our next camp at Jancapampa with amazing view of mount Jirishanca and mount Ninashanca to background. Overnight camp at Mitucocha. (05 – 06 hours walking)
DAY 02: MITUCOCHA – PUNTA CARHUAC – CARHUACOCHA (4,230 – 4,650 – 4,140 mt)
Today trek is on easy terrain until reach Punta Carhuac pass at (4650m), from this pass we will be able to have breath- taking views of the highest peaks of Huayhuash such as: Yerupaja (6617m) and the famous Siula Grande (6344m), Hirishanca, after that we will start walking down until lake Carhuacocha, which is truly gorgeously place, scenic campsite with astonishing mountain view to the back ground. Overnight camp at Lake Carhuacocha . (05 – 06 hours walking)
DAY 03: CARHUACOCHA – SIULA PASS – HUAYHUASH CAMP (4,140 – 4,830 – 4,350 mt)
As every day after breakfast we will start hiking and this day is one of the best in the Huayhuash Circuit because will enjoy the spectacular sunrise,where we can appreciate the reflection of the mountains in the lake ;after we will keep walking up toward Siula view point from where we will enjoy the most fabulous breath taking views behind of three glacier lakes as Siula, Quesillococha, Cangracocha then we will keep walking up hill till the pass Siula. again, the post cards pictures views and the other cordillera Raura amazing place to stay forever enjoying the view and finally downhill passing the lake Carnicero until Huayhuash camping at 4330 m. (06 – 07 hours walking)
DAY 04: HUAYHUASH – TRAPECIO PASS – PAMPA ELEFAMTE CAMP (4,350 – 5050 – 4,450 MT)
this day we get up early for the Trapasio pass at 5,050 mt, this is one of the alpine routes because it is not included in the classic huayhuash route– with an optional additional 30 minute walk to reach the glacier this additional is a great option because We reach the snow and then continue a little higher near the snow where you can see a panoramic view of a chain of mountains. Then descend passing 5 beautiful lakes to reach pampa elefate camp at 4,450m. Approximately 6-7 hours of walking to reach the camp.
DAY 05: PAMPA ELEFANTE – SANTA ROSA VIEW POINT – HUAYLLAPA VILLAGE (4,450 – 5,060 – 3,490 mt)
After a good breakfast, this day we will be able to see the famous Alpine route and one of the greatest view from the santa rosa view point also where you can see the mountain of (SIULA GRANDE) from very close, this mountain is famous for being part of this great movie, we will be able to see the valley where this great story happened and the mountain of (SIULA GRANDE 6344) (touching the void), this day we will cross the valley of (CUTATAMBO) fanally arriving to the huayllapa village The town considered the heart of the Huayhuash mountain range.
DAY 06: HUAYLLAPA VILLAGE – TAPUSHPUNTA PASS – GASHPAPAMPA CAMP (3,490 – 4,770 – 4,500 mt)
After enjoying the town, we continued our route towards our next campsite this day with some tiring walk through a steep slope but still enjoyable with the spectacular view around our walk. (05 to 06 hours walking until the camp site)
DAY 07: GASHPAPAMPA – YAUCHA PASS – JAHUACOCHA CAMP (4,500 – 4,850 – 4,050 mt)
This is another beautifull day considerate of of the best views in tha trek, after breakfast we will start walking up toward punta yaucha pass from the pass we will enjoy the most spectacular mountain views such us: the iconic mount yerupaja, jirishanca, rondoy, ninashanca etc.
After it we will walk to one of the view point huacrish all the ridge site of the mountain where we can see condor flying ander us but not always, we neet to be very lucky for it, after having fun on the top we will neet to decend to our camp jahuacocha just for lunch means our day finish at noon rest of our afternoon to enjoy on our camp site and it is optional to walk around the lake.( walking 6 hours )
DAY 08: JAHUACOCHA – LLAMAC – HUARAZ (4,050 – 3,300 – 3,100 mt)
Our last day we will start walking toward Pampa Llamac pass at 4300 m, where we will rest for taking last pictures, and take a short break before start descending on slope trail until village Llamac, where our private transport is waiting us to drive Huaraz. (04 – 05 hours walking) (04 hours driving)
